ROADIE 3
The Next-Generation Automatic Tuner
Roadie 3 is the 3rd generation, automatic, instrument tuner from Roadie Music. It is much more than a tuner, and it is compatible with almost any stringed instrument. The Roadie 3 will help you find your sound quickly and accurately.
The Roadie 3 is a modern automatic guitar tuner. It is a product of Band Industries, the makers of the original Roadie tuner, and the Roadie 2 tuner. This new edition tuner comes with many major improvements, and operates at a faster rotational speed. The color screen displays a built-in metronome, and a digital, dynamic frequency. Like its predecessors, the Roadie 3 doesn’t work on bass guitars and lacks a tone generator.
The Roadie 3 has a different desugn than the first two models. At 3.5 by 2.0 by 1.0 inches (HWD), it’s thinner than the Roadie 2. Instead of an angular T-shape design, it has a cylindrical shape and rubber finish. It has a more comfortable feel in your hand. The winding mechanism is built into the top of the tuner, making it easier to view the screen while tuning your guitar. It’s powered by a rechargeable battery with USB for charging. The Roadie 3 can tune up to 150 strings on a single charge. It also comes with a Bluetooth radio, to connect to the Roadie mobile app for Android and iOS devices.
The winding mechanism is twice as fast, at 110rpms, compared to the Roadie 2, at 60rpms. It uses string vibration instead of sound to tune your strings. It can be used to tune acoustic, electric, and steel guitars; banjos; mandolins; ukuleles; and just about any string instrument. It can’t be used for bass guitars. You will need a Roadie Bass tuner.
In addition to tuning your guitar, the Roadie 3 is also a string winder. It can quickly unwind old strings and wind up new strings. It will wind and tune them in one easy step. Other new features include a vibrating metronome, a color screen, and more than 150 tunings preprogrammed into the device. It also has the ability to create and store custom tunings.
There’s a small power button on the top of the device, next to the winding/tuning mechanism. There is a USB-C power port on the bottom. The front has a four-way knob for selecting and navigating the menu options. The display is a 1.0-by-0.75-inch color screen.
The tuner screen allows you to add your instruments. It gives you the options: acoustic, classical, or electric. There are also options for ukulele, mandolin, dobro, banjo, and lap pedal, steel guitars. Once you select an instrument, you can choose your tuning choice: standard, open G, open D, open C, drop D, D Modal, Half-Step Down, etc. It also lets you see the actual note and frequency of the string as you pluck it. You can tell the Roadie 3 that you’re using a capo and at which fret it’s positioned.
In the Metronome screen, you can set the Metronome to beep, vibrate, or both. It will configure a beat count between 2 and 16 beats. The winder screen is for winding and unwinding strings. You can select one of three speeds, for each direction. The settings screen can enable more features. Tune Up brings the string down below pitch before tuning it up and tightening it. You can choose Fast or High Accuracy tuning depending on your requirements. You can also select an ascending or descending note order.
Tuning any stringed instrument is easy.Place the device on the peg closest to you, starting with the low E string on a traditional guitar. Pluck the string and The Roadie will rotate the tuning peg until the string is in tune. It will vibrate and beep and display the note on the screen in green. It will automatically move on to the next string. Just like the earlier Roadie versions, this model lacks a tone generator, so you cant hear the note that you’re tuning to.
You can add instruments and create tunings, or you can use the Roadie mobile app. The main screen has panels for each of your installed instruments with names and pictures. The Add Instrument panel opens a screen with a long list of instrument types. You can select an instrument type, brand, and choose the number of strings. Tap any instrument to assign a tuning or create a new tuning, tune with a capo, or change the reference pitch. Once you’ve selected the tuning criteria, tap Tune to tune your instrument.
When using the Roadie 3 for the first time, charge the internal battery for several hours, using the USB cable. Download the mobile app, tap Connect at the top of the screen, and select the Roadie 3 from the list. Power it up and tap Yes on the device when it asks if you want to connect to your mobile device. You will be immediately connected. Create an account to store your instruments and settings in the Roadie cloud.
With up to 150 different available tunings, a color screen, and a more compact design, the Roadie 3 Automatic Guitar Tuner is the perfect tool. It makes it easy to tune guitars, banjos, mandolins, or any other stringed instrument. The only exception is a bass guitar. Its 110rpm winding mechanism makes restringing simple. The tuner is very accurate and easy to use. The Roadie mobile app lets you add instruments, assign tunings, and create your own custom tunings. A tone generator would be nice but that’s the only setback. The Roadie 3 is a convenient and useful tool for any musician.
